Florida influencer and former NYPD cop John Cardillo booted from Cajun hotspot over Hamas flap

Florida political influencer and former NYPD cop John Cardillo was asked to leave a Fort Lauderdale restaurant Sunday after arguing with pro-Palestinian staffers.

In a tweet, Cardillo said he was dining at the Voodoo Bayou Cajun eatery when things turned spicy.

The ex-police officer and prominent backer of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said two waitresses began cheering as a truck drove by carrying people waving Palestinian flags.

“When I told them it was disgusting and asked for a manager, the manager John came out, asked me to leave, and sided with the terror sympathizers,” he wrote, along with a picture of the passing vehicle.

Cardillo — who said the manager threatened to call police if he didn’t leave — then posted the restaurant’s phone number.

Several respondents called for a boycott and praised Cardillo’s actions.

“John Cardillo is a hero,” one person wrote. “He’s not a Jew. He’s a man of common sense and decency and has a brain.”

Others began posting negative reviews on the restaurant’s social media pages, asserting that it espoused terror and mistreated the dissenting patron.

Some posters argued that the flags were not Hamas-specific and that the staffers had a right to back Palestinians.

The controversy spurred the principal of the eatery’s ownership group, True Grit Hospitality, to address the situation on social media.

Curtis Peery wrote that “there were some vehicles driving by waving some Hamas flags.”

“One of our guests accused one of our employees of waving at the protestors driving by,” he continued. “The manager on duty (who is Jewish himself) tried to diffuse (sic) the situation by saying we do not get involved in politics. The manager on duty asked the guest to leave.”

Peery then clarified the restaurant’s official position on Hamas, stressing that his venture was more focused on po’ boys than politics.

“As the owner of Voodoo Bayou, I assure you that we ABSOLUTELY DO NOT SUPPORT HAMAS,” he wrote. “We pride ourselves on being a place where you can go to escape political discourse.”

In a separate defense, Peery claimed Israeli flags were fluttering from other cars and that it was unclear which banner the waitresses were reacting to.

Cardillo denied that version of events in a separate tweet.

“There was no such truck,” he wrote, noting that he later spoke to Peery and asserted that his staffers were lying to him about the dispute.

“We’re currently conducting a full investigation regarding the incident,” Peery said.
