Cause of death revealed for L.A. model Nichole Coats whose family was convinced was murdered

A budding Los Angeles model whose family feared had been murdered last month actually died from an accidental overdose of cocaine and booze, according to the medical examiner.

Nichole “Nikki” Coats, 32, was found dead in her apartment on Sept. 10 — two days before another model was found dead from “homicidal violence” just a few miles away.

Her family immediately suspected foul play, with her dad, Guy Coats, telling The Post that she looked so “busted” and “swollen” when he found her he could only recognize his daughter by her tattoos.

“I believe it was murder, I really do,” the dad also told KTLA. “That’s not somebody who just laid in their bed and died.”

However, the case was not investigated as a homicide, and on Tuesday was officially ruled an “accident” by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

The only cause of death was listed as “cocaine and ethanol toxicity,” with the latter being alcohol.

The case status remained listed as “open,” without explanation, and the medical examiner’s office did not immediately respond to calls seeking clarification.

Coats’ death sparked intrigue — and local panic — when another local model, Maleesa Mooney, 31, was found dead in her apartment about 3 miles away just two days later.

Mooney’s cause of death has been determined to be “homicidal violence,” and her manner of death has been listed as a “homicide,” according to the medical examiner’s office. Mooney was two months pregnant with her first child at the time of her killing, according to her sister.

However, the LAPD quickly stressed that there was no evidence to suggest that the models’ deaths were connected.

While Mooney’s death was being probed as a homicide, Coats’ was “being handled as a death investigation,” police previously said.

Coats’ mother, Sharon Coats, told the Los Angeles Times last month that she was “angry” with the authorities for ruling out foul play in her daughter’s case.

“It’s like they don’t care. I’m not going to let this be a cold case. I will keep voicing my opinion regarding what happened,” the mom told the publication.

So far, no arrests have been made in Mooney’s killing, and the LAPD has offered no updates on the investigation.
