Newly released video shows the moment cops searching for the children of Utah YouTuber Rube Franke stormed her mansion — and later found two of the kids at the home of a woman who worked at her counseling service.Franke — a “momfluencer” who ran the now-banned YouTube channel “8 Passengers” — and her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, were arrested Aug. 30 after one of her kids escaped from the latter’s home while emaciated and with duct tape on his extremities. The two women were originally charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse, but four additional counts of child abuse were added a week later. On the day of Franke’s arrest, her kids were found separated by hundreds of miles, according to KUTV.After the escaped boy went to a neighbor’s home to call 911, police began searching for Franke’s two other minor kids. At first, cops in Springville thought they might be at her home, but when they served a warrant it was unoccupied, so they began searching elsewhere. They eventually arrived at the home of Pam Bodtcher, an employee of ConneXions — the counseling service Franke ran with Hidebrandt — and located the two children, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.Body cam video obtained by KUTV shows a roughly 90-minute exchange between American Fork police, Bodtcher, her husband and the kids.“I don’t even know what this is all about,” Bodtcher tells the officers as her husband asks if they have a warrant, which they confirm. One officer remains at the doorway with the husband and a girl while the other officer speaks with Bodtcher inside his vehicle, where she sat in handcuffs. The first officer asks the child if she has any shoes because she is only wearing socks.“It’s just a simple question … you don’t have to look at grandpa to know whether or not you have shoes,” the cop tells the girl as Bodtcher’s husband clarifies that he is not the grandfather. In another conversation, a cop tells Bodtcher that St. George and Springville police had told them to go to inside her home, locate Franke’s girl and detain the employee until “questions are answered.”“She comes over to my house all the time,” the woman says of the girl.“I’m going off what you’re saying. I’m going off what they’re saying,” the officer replies. “I don’t know what’s the truth. I know she’s here. I don’t know if she came willingly or not.”Bodtcher eventually says that Franke had called her to say there was a “family emergency” and asked her to pick up her two daughters.“Those are my friend’s daughters,” she says, adding that she has been close with Franke for about three years. One officer asks the husband to move away from the home while another cop waits with the girl inside, but the man initially refuses.“What are you afraid of, sir?” the officer asks him.“Number one, I don’t know what’s going on,” the husband replies. “Number two, I don’t want Springville [police] to drive up and you guys whisk her away without giving any information or anything. “Number three, her mom isn’t here right now, and I feel like I’m kind of trying to protect her from getting into a bad situation.”He goes on to say: “I’m not going to get crazy, I don’t have any weapons, I don’t have anything. I just had surgery on this ankle. I just feel a certain responsibility to her and her mom to protect her the best that I can.”Another cop asks the girl why she appears terrified.“Do you go to school or would you rather not talk?” the officer asks her, but she remains mum. After about 45 minutes, the girl’s sister whispers something into her ear, prompting an officer to warn them not to run away.Shortly after that, a worker with the Utah Division of Child and Family Services arrives at the home.“If you are going to talk to them, talk to them separately. I think she might be coaching her,” an officer tells the staffer, referring to the sister.Bodtcher was detained for nearly 50 minutes before Springville officers arrived to gather more information, according to the footage. The two children were taken into state custody and later released to a family member.Legal experts questioned the procedure that was followed during the woman’s detainment, in which she was questioned for about 50 minutes without being read her Miranda RightsCriminal defense attorney Skye Lazaro, who is not involved in the case, criticized police for not informing Bodtcher of her rights in a timely fashion. “It’s crucial for people to know their constitutional rights before being interrogated by the police,” Lazaro told KUTV. “They have the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney. In this case, it raises concerns from a legal standpoint.”Police have acknowledged that there was never an arrest warrant for Bodtcher, who later told the girls to get their stuff together because they were going to go with the DCFS staffer to stay with Shari Franke, their eldest sister.Shari, who attends Brigham Young University, cut ties with her family last year, after her mom began working with Hildebrandt, she reportedly said on a podcast.“There’s literally not even words to describe how upside down my life has become,” Shari wrote on Instagram, according to Fox News.“I’ve cried, had an infinite number of panic attacks, had way too much ice cream, and yet life goes on. Therapy has literally saved me, but God has too. My life is somehow becoming more beautiful and fulfilling, despite all the terrible things going on,” Shari wrote. She added that she has tried to live “life to the fullest the last few weeks” despite wanting to “hide away.”“Tomorrow is another big court day, and I’d appreciate your prayers and thoughts for my family and myself,” she wrote. “Words can’t express the gratitude I feel for you all, and I feel your love.”Franke’s sisters released a joint statement saying they did everything they could to protect their nieces and nephews “behind the public scene” and that the arrest “needed to happen.”Franke shares four minor children with husband Kevin Franke: Abby, 16, Julie, 14, Russell, 12, and Eve, 9. The couple also share Shari, 20, and Chad, 18.Through a lawyer, Franke’s husband has denied having any part in the abuse.Franke in court accused one of her own children of sexually abusing a sibling for years.YouTube has deleted her account and banned her from the platform.
